Firearms and Toolmarks Examiner Level II
— Salary: $38,854

Vermont Forensic Laboratory
Waterbury, Vermont

Qualifications include the following:

  • BS in criminalistics, biology, chemistry, or a related field with at least two years' forensic laboratory experience
  • Additional forensic work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree
  • Qualified as a firearms and toolmarks examiner with training and experience from a recognized forensic laboratory

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Performing laboratory and field work involving firearms and toolmarks and related examinations for the Forensic Laboratory in the Department of Public Safety
  • Performing on-scene evidentiary searches at major or difficult crime scenes
  • Preparing written reports of findings and testifying in a court of law concerning results
