Forensic Psychology Internship

The student will:

  • Learn various stages of the mental health expert’s involvement in legal process while completing a variety of duties in forensic psychology, forensic expert case administration, and forensic science
  • Assist in forensic cases - projects differ case by case

Some examples of assignments are:

  • Transcribe forensic psychiatric interview videotapes
  • Organize crime scene photos and source documents
  • Investigative search for witnesses
  • Document review and fact checking

Students are required to familiarize themselves with their assigned cases. They must understand the medico-legal issues involved as well as the dynamics of the cases. In doing so, they will appreciate the process, involvement, and the role of forensic experts in criminal/civil cases. They have the opportunity to further advance their understanding by observing expert witness testimony, observing deposition, and observing/participating in psychiatric interview. An additional requirement for this position is the completion of or being currently enrolled in psychology and the law, with psychology of criminal behavior as an additional benefit.

Deadlines and Starting Dates: The company offers spring, summer, fall, and winter internships. There are no deadlines. Internships are granted on a first-come first-served basis. Preference is given to students who can commit to the longest period possible, preferably six months.

Time Commitment and Scheduling: Internships accept flexible schedules offering morning and evening hours, allowing students to take outside classes, hold a part-time job, or work a full-time internship. All internships are a minimum of 24 hours per week (typically four days a week for six hours, or three days a week for eight hours). Ideal candidates commit to a six-month period.

All internships with The Forensic Panel are on voluntary basis. There is no financial compensation or transportation reimbursement. Class credit can be earned when applicable through your university.

Internships at The Forensic Panel are for permanent legal residents of the United States or Canada. International students will not be considered.

Latent Fingerprint Examiner II

  • Successful completion of high school, G.E.D. Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate
  • At least three years performing technical identification work including comparison and identification of latent print materials
