CIO Magazine Honors FBI’s Jennifer Sanchez

Jennifer Sanchez

WASHINGTON (May 28, 2009)—CIO Magazine has named the FBI’s Jennifer Sanchez as one of its 2009 “Ones to Watch” within the Information Technology (IT) field.

The “Ones to Watch Award” is presented annually by CIO Magazine and the magazine’s CIO Executive Council. Through this award, the magazine recognizes the next generation of IT leaders and Chief Information Officers (CIOs) who have fostered their talents and have advanced up the leadership ladder.

Sanchez is a Section Chief within the FBI’s Information and Technology Branch (ITB), responsible for computer applications that support Bureau operations nationwide.

Sanchez began her career with the FBI in 1978 as an entry-level fingerprint examiner. In 1985, she provided onsite support to our Training Division at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia for a new computer application called the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. Over the next 17 years, she progressed from programmer to project manager, while maintaining close liaison with the sponsoring division and state and local law enforcement agencies in support of that application. In 2002, she returned to FBI Headquarters and became the Unit Chief for Headquarters Investigative Software Development.

Sanchez was nominated by Deputy CIO Dean E. Hall, who praised both her technical skills and leadership style. “Jennifer has an uncanny knack for being able to understand what is said by a customer and translating that into actionable technical requirements and to get the high-level perspective on how what is being discussed fits into the overall picture,” Hall said.

“The Ones to Watch honorees are, variously, great technologists, project managers, information architects, and risk managers. The one thing they all have in common is their ability to lead,” added Maryfran Johnson, CIO Magazine editor-in-chief.

The awards were presented to the 25 honorees on May 4, 2009 at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida during CIO Magazine’s annual Leadership Event.
