FBI Honored as “Government Innovator” by InformationWeek

WASHINGTON (September 14, 2010)—The FBI was honored with the prestigious “Government Innovator” award at the annual InformationWeek 500 Conference and Gala Awards Dinner, which celebrates the 500 most innovative users of business technology.

The award, accepted by John P. Everett, Section Chief of the FBI’s IT Infrastructure Support Section, and Jeff A. Bauerlein, Senior IT Specialist, was an exciting one, and was the icing on the cake for the Next Generation Network (NGN) and Next Generation Workspace (NGW) projects. InformationWeek is the business technology market's foremost multimedia brand, and to be recognized with an award was a significant achievement for FBI information technology.

The Bureau was highlighted by InformationWeek as a standout in the crowd for its use of emerging technology. The event lauded the NGN and NGW projects for their dramatic contributions and improvements to the Bureau’s information technology capabilities.

NGN was recognized for bringing increased speed and capability to FBI networks by increasing bandwidth, reducing latency, and “flattening” the network to provide faster login times, connections, downloads/uploads of data transfers, and communications.

In addition, enhanced Next Generation Workspaces received by FBI employees compliment the upgraded network, complete with Microsoft collaborative software and, new webcams, headsets, and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phones.

With these upgraded capabilities, agents, analysts, and professional staff are able to share information and connect quicker and easier than ever before with colleagues and counterparts in local, state, and tribal law enforcement and in the intelligence community around the globe.

The InformationWeek award is a tremendous achievement  and an honor as the FBI continues to innovate in support of its mission.
