Current Year Over Previous Year Arrest Trends, by Sex, 2010–2011

  • Nationwide, the number of males arrested in 2011 decreased 5.1 percent when compared with the number of those arrested in 2010.  The number of females arrested decreased 2.9 percent.
  • A comparison of arrest data for juveniles (persons under age 18) for 2010 and 2011 showed arrests of juvenile males decreased 11.1 percent, and arrests of juvenile females decreased 11.2 percent.
  • The 2-year trend showed that the number of males arrested for violent crimes decreased 5.1 percent, and the number of females arrested declined 4.3 percent.
  • Arrests of juvenile males for violent crimes in 2011 decreased 10.6 percent from data for the previous year.  The number of juvenile females arrested for violent crimes declined 13.4 percent.
  • When compared with data for 2010, arrests of males for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter in 2011 decreased 5.2 percent, and arrests of females increased 1.6 percent.  Arrests of juvenile males for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter declined 17.1 percent, and arrests of juvenile females decreased 42.7 percent.
  • The number of males arrested in 2011 for property crimes increased 0.3 percent, and the number of females arrested decreased 0.8 percent when compared with data for 2010. 
  • The number of juvenile males arrested for property crimes decreased 7.3 percent, and the number of juvenile females arrested for property crime decreased 13.2 percent.
